This exhibition is the outcome of the 2009 Post Middendorp photography commission, which had as its theme ‘Groningen Fire’. The Province of Groningen awards this commission every two years, with the stated purpose of making a contribution to 'the visual historiography of our province'.Jan-Dirk van der Burg (b. 1978) finds his inspiration in the little events that lap on the shores of our lives. In his work he balances somewhere between nostalgia, humour and irony. For this commission Van der Burg made a photographic investigation of political 'fire'. In Kop der Veur he shows us Groningers who, from Appingedam to Zuurdijk, are occupied with politics in all its forms. Events around the community council elections last March are at the heart of the series.
The exhibition will be opened on Saturday 16 October, at 4:00 p.m., by Mr. Hans Gerritsen, executive of the Province of Groningen.
