Awoiska van der Molen (Groningen, 1972) studied architecture and photography at Minerva Academy in Groningen, and in 2000  attended Hunter College, in New York City. After that she took her Masters at St. Joost Academy in Breda. Van der Molen lives and works in Amsterdam.
She generally makes her work in the still of the night, when the senses can not be distracted by the stimuli of the hustle and bustle of daytime urban life. She continues to apply this concentration in the darkroom, where she prints her nocturnal landscapes herself.
