Under the influence of Egyptian and Arab investors, enclosed shopping malls and other places for spending leisure time have been rising, all referring to global, Western standards. These are regarded as symbols of modernity, while religious expressions and values are increasingly seen as representative of the Arab culture that resists Western cultural domination. COPTS OF EGYPT (1997-2003)

The history of Egypt has seen many religions. The Christianity of the Copts has its roots in the time of the pharaohs and has undergone influences from the Arab and Byzantine worlds. Despite various attempts to Islamise their land, the Copts still make up about ten percent of the Egyptian population. That makes the them largest Christian community in the Middle East.
