Noorderlicht faces closure: support us in our fight to stay alive!

Negative recommendation by Cultural Council inexplicable

The Cultural Council of The Netherlands advised the Dutch Government to cut the financial support to Noorderlicht after 2012. For Noorderlicht the consequences are nothing less than disastrous. As the result of a negative recommendation, which de facto implies that its total budget is cut by 50%, Noorderlicht is threatened with closure. Noorderlicht is baffled at the rationale behind the negative recommendation from the Cultural Council with regard to its future funding.

Versatile, passionate and outspoken, Noorderlicht combines true photographic quality with social engagement and a critical voice.
Noorderlicht is a leading international platform with a sharp eye for new developments and unearthing new talent for an international audience.
Noorderlicht works with photographers around the globe and was one of the first to frequently show work from non-Western photographers. It is unique in its thematic approach to curating. The Noorderlicht exhibitions travel the world and its photobooks are highly regarded internationally.
