A special preview of 'Warzone' can be seen in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam through 30 May. 'Warzone' is a photography project by Noorderlicht about the experience of the individual soldier in conflict areas. We follow soldiers who are sent to far-flung battlefields, as they go from the relative safety of training to the surreal heart of war. 'Warzone' will be completed later this year with a book and an exhibition.

| | | | Two Noorderlicht productions nominated |
| | Dutch Doc Award: best documentary project of 2009
We are proud to announce that Jeroen Kramer en Mathieu Keuter have been nominated for the Dutch Doc Award. Kramer and Keuter recently realised their documentary project in direct cooperation with Noorderlicht. Anoek Steketee and Guus Rijven, photographers with whom Noorderlicht has maintained a long-term relationship, have also been nominated.
In these nominations, by an international jury, we certainly also see a great appreciation of Noorderlicht's efforts to stimulate documentary photography, both in its more traditional variants, and certainly also for experimentation within documentary photography.

The next step in your photo-journalistic career Noorderlicht has teamed up with curator Marc Prüst and Lars Boering of Lux Photo Gallery to design a one-year master class for professional photojournalists and social documentary photographers. It aims at developing their skills as photographers and in marketing their own work. This master class sets itself apart from most classes because of its long-term format and intensive assistance throughout the year.

Magnum photographer Paolo Pellegrin and Financial Times photography critic Francis Hodgson will guide the first session. Registration forms are available on our website.

Nine Eastern European photographers travelled through Ukraine to record the complex reality of the young democracy in photo essays. They expose the traces of Soviet domination, but also celebrate the country's variety, and the spirit of the young people who will decide their country's future.
