Harry Bos - Heilstätte

In a double exhibition with old post cards, documents and his own photography, Harry Bos sketches a picture of the moving history of the Heilstätten, the former sanatorium complex on the Grabowsee, neat Berlin. At the beginning of the 20th century this glorious complex, built in 1896, was still a heavenly place to recover from lung problems. During the Second World War however it fell prey to history. From 1945 to 1995 it functioned as a military hospital for Soviet-era soldiers, and since then has stood empty. Although the building has been stripped, the roof has collapsed, and the grounds are overgrown, the site is still pervaded with so much history and grandeur it regularly attracts artists and urban explorers. Recently the arts festival Artbase 2011 was held there, and presently plans are being laid to start an artist-in-residency for the site.
