Kunstruimte Galerie Block C
Laurence Aëgerter - Photographic Treatment ©
The project Photographic Treatment © researches the effects of photographic images on people suffering from dementia, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. This work by Laurence Aëgerter is related to recent scientific studies which indicate that experiencing images has a positive influence on patients. The photographs are silk-screen prints which when touched release scents such as soap, caraway and lavender. The combination of associative looking, feeling and smelling stimulates cognitive functions. The project is followed and supported by scientists including the neurobiologist Dick Swaab.
