Free choice or coincidence, fate or goal - motherhood means something different for each woman. Commissioned by the magazine onzeWereld (Our World), fifteen photographers made a reportage about mothers and motherhood in 14 different countries. How do they live, how do circumstances in time determine their timeloss role?

The photographs that were made for this international project can be seen in the Noorderlicht Photogallery. The result is caleidoscopic. The exhbition features among others images of Russian mothers in wartime (Oleg Klimov) and working mothers in China (Duan Yuting); of stepmothers in the Netherlands (Tara Fallaux) and mothering fathers in America (Kirsten Thoen); of impregnated teenage prostitutes in St. Petersburg (Geert van Kesteren) and the 'hirza' (eunuchs) of Bangladesh (Akash).
